If you fell into bed last night, exhausted, and today you woke up knowing that it was going to be a repeat of yesterday -- just more busy, stressful moments ahead, I suspect that you are in the most heavily-tasked job in the world. You are a working, single parent. How does a single parent find the time or the energy to keep their strength up, to remain healthy, to grow spiritually?

The Problem with Permissiveness

In his the best selling book, The Strong-Willed Child, psychologist, Dr. James Dobson makes the case for parents acting as the leaders in their homes -- a stance that many other parenting experts are not in favor of. There is a lot of parenting advice out there today. I encourage parents to always weigh anyone's advice against God's Biblical teachings. Then pray about the direction you choose for your family and even seek the wisdom of a mature Christian brother or sister to clarify your understanding.

Do you remember that Coke commercial that featured hippy-looking folks singing on a hill? I'll just remind you of the words to the song. "I'd like to teach the world to sing in perfect harmony." Well, Most parents say "forget the world - I'd settle for teaching my own kids to be in harmony!"

Practice + Prayer = Protection

Talking to teens about sexual behaviors is at best awkward and for most parents very difficult. But your kids deserve to hear the straight talk about such a vital part of their maturing life from the people that cherish them the most.
