Kids Can Have Character
9/18/2008

If someone says that a kid is a "real character", we know that’s not good! We do though, want our kids to have character. Meaning: showing integrity and having a good reputation. And one of the best ways, parents, to teach character is by example. If your kids are to learn to be truthful, be responsible, show respect for others, then practice those principles yourself. Kids are pretty perceptive! They usually don’t care a bit about the values you teach --unless they see you follow them in your own life. Sure, it’s that old principle “Don’t just talk the talk. Walk the walk.” The most important teaching of course, comes from the greatest book of Wisdom, God’s Word. Children can and will learn from the youngest age that their Father in Heaven, THE Creator of the Universe knows best how people should live. Study the Bible with your children to find out what God says about behavior, about respect, about self- discipline and wisdom. And listen to your kids, find out what they are thinking. Who their friends are and how they are being influenced by them. Guide them to make wise choices – not by telling them what to think – but HOW to think-through situations and come up with the right decisions. And then maybe others will tell you not that your kid is a character, but instead-- has real character.
