Fueling Your Wings

5/2/2008

Have you ever watched a butterfly as it flutters over a bed of flowers? Sometimes a butterfly's wings are flapping wildly. It is expending a lot of energy. And then other times, it almost seems like it is suspended in air - Its wings just barely moving. It is during this moment that the butterfly is at its food source. It senses nutrients - and will stop to take in what it needs to replenish energy. Like a busy butterfly, a parent spends a lot of energy, working, raising kids, maintaining a marriage, doing errands, running a home. Your "parent wings"  flap wildy, getting to where you need to go and doing what you need to do. When you need to re-fuel where do stop? Parents, you need a strong support system - people that will nourish YOUR life. You may get that from your family - or yours may drain your energy. Close, trustworthy friends may be a resource for recharging your batteries. Your church's children's and youth ministries can be great support. Sometimes you may want the ear of a Christian counselor, especially when there is a lot stress or worry. And of course, prayer plugs you in immediately with God's power and strength.  When your energy gets zapped and you need life support, think about where to go to refresh. Because you will need to be still, to replenish your energy, and hover for a moment - like  the butterfly
