Childcare-givers as Role Models
10/22/2008
When you left your baby this morning on your way to work, how was that experience for you? Did you feel confident - knowing your little one was in great hands?! 45% of all babies in this country are being cared for each day by daycare workers or babysitters - someone other than their own parents during the workday. That's a ton of babies for other people to care for! Who are these people who spend 40 plus hours a week watching, caring for, and protecting kids that aren't their own? You may have thought a lot about that as a working mommy or daddy. One single dad told me that it had a hard time concentrating at work, worrying about his little girl staying all day at a church daycare center.
Working parents do worry about their kids. Studies show that over 85% of parents work outside the home, leaving their children in the care of other people during the days or nights that they are on the job. It's important that parents make sure that the folks who care for your child takes their role as seriously as you do. These people are helping you to raise your child, after all. So expect them to treat your child with care, with love, and responsibility. Remember, your child's caregiver is a role model for your child also, just like you are.
