Single Parenting - As a Single Mom

"M-o-o-o-o-o-m!!!!!" Wow! Do you hear that about a thousand times a day?! Most mothers will verify that after hearing it one hundred times, you may just close the ears --- just can't listen to it one more time! Well, those of you that are single moms, have the challenge of listening to your kids with no one to share that load.  One of the greater challenges of being a single mom is raising a son to be an emotionally healthy man.  Because so much of your life as a single parent you are alone, it may be tempting to try to make your boy-child into the "man" of the house long before he is ready to take that on. True, you want to teach him to grow up to be a man, but there is a difference between being mom's "little man" and being made responsible for things that adults are supposed to take care of.  So, don't make your son your best friend, your confidante, or your knight in shining armor. Your son needs to be blessed to grow up in a home where he can just be a kid. He shouldn't have to "take care of Mommy". So be very careful about how you word things or how you explain things to your son, so that he doesn't fill a burden that is really not his to bear.
