Raising Respectful, Responsible Children

7/6/2009

I’m telling you something! It gets on my very last nerve to hear the way some kids speak to their parents. But what is worse! Is the way parents talk to their children. Do you speak to your children respectfully? Not sure. I’ll give you a hint: if you yell at your kids, that is not being respectful. But speaking in a friendly, neutral tone is. This is one tool that if you keep it in your parenting toolbox, you’ll do a good job.  You cannot expect your child to become respectful of you or others, if you are not modeling respectful behavior. Do you use good manners?  That’s more than just saying please and thank you. If your children are going to learn to treat others with manners, with respect, you Mom and Dad are the trainers that will teach them these basic social skills. Your children are watching you. They are learning how to do or not do so many things from you. They will copy your behavior. Teaching your children to love others is something that will see you do or NOT do. What will you do today to model respect, love, and friendly behavior? That is the best way to really teach your kids.So that your children will learn from the way YOU treat other people. The best way to really learn a lesson.
