Love and Marriage
2/10/2009
"Honey, Let's talk" may be the least favorite thing that a husband likes to hear from his wife. Research shows that women have stronger language skills than men. This difference can create some heavy conflict in a marriage and can create a lot of anger and frustration - for both a husband and a wife. It’s generally understood that guys will have less to say than women do. Of course there are exceptions - some men will talk a lot and some women are fairly quiet. But it’s common knowledge that most women have a more of a need in a relationship to talk more than men.
As a marriage therapist, it’s common for more of the wives I work with to say that their husbands won’t or don’t talk to them, than I have men saying that about their wives. This difference between men and women can lead to some complicated problems in marriage. If you are an emotional and verbal wife and you are married to a strong, silent husband, you need to know that working out your needs and your differences will require lots of thoughtful compromise. And it’s possible even with your communication differences that you can talk things out! It requires a lot of – what this month is all about—LOVE!
