Grandparents are Grand!

       I’ve heard that there is nothing else on earth like having a grandchild. Family experts will say that grandparents have the second most powerful influence in a child’s life. They provide something like no one else can. Grandparents provide their family a sense of history. Being part of the older generation, they are actually living family history. Grandparents are connected to the history of a child’s family that extends back farther than their parent’s past. This helps a child develop a sense of family identity. And this relationship with the older generation in their family helps children to develop a sense of self. A unique thing about grandparents is fulfilling God’s plan for families. The Bible says that one of the roles of a grandparent is to share in a faith-filled life with their grandkids.  God’s Word teaches in Deuteronomy 6 this truth: "You and your children and grandchildren must fear the Lord your God as long as you live. Obey all his decrees and commands, and you will enjoy a long life." One of the finest ways that children learn about a living faith and God’s love is through hearing about their grandparent’s faithful life.Mature Christians who’ve experienced a lifetime relationship with God can do faith building AND faith passing – and that makes for a relationship like nothing else on earth.
